a weekend of history

Moments ago, Atlantis blasted off for the last time.
The Republic of South Sudan will become the world's newest nation when it declares independence on Saturday.  Since it's the weekend, I'm feeling optimistic. I hope, for the sake of future generations, that the new nation will find security, will develop and flourish and that its rich natural resources are protected and used wisely to help its people rise from decades of marginalization and violence. I wish I knew more to say more, and hope that it wasn't unwise to say what I just did.
